Burn Ban Order for Justin

Justin Fire Marshal Robert Stubblefield issued a burn ban for the city effective July 22. He cited the threat of wildland fires resulting from persistent drought and adverse weather conditions as reasons.

The Justin Fire Department has experienced numerous fires within its fire district in the last 45 days. Some fires resulted from discarded, burning cigarettes and others from careless outdoor burning. In the interest of fire prevention, the fire marshal is asking for the cooperation of all Justin residents regarding outdoor burning. High winds, reduced humidity and abundant combustible vegetation have contributed to the risk of large, destructive fires.

Denton County issued a burn ban for the unincorporated areas of the county on the same day. The Justin burn ban will remain in effect for 90 days or until the Denton County burn ban is lifted, whichever comes first.

This order bans all outdoor burning, restricts outdoor hot work (welding, cutting, grinding, and torch operations), and the use of combustible materials. Combustible materials, as defined by the Denton County Department of Emergency Services, including, but are not limited to, all retail fireworks, discarding of cigarettes or other flammable materials and any other activity that could result in a fire within the city of Justin.

Violation of this order is considered a misdemeanor and is punishable by a fine not to exceed $2,000.

Anyone with questions, concerns or complaints about outdoor burning should contact the City of Justin at 940-648-2541.
