Under shady trees next to Haslet’s Public Library, the Friends of the Haslet Library held their summer book sale in conjunction with the annual Fourth of July celebration. Treasurer and past president Lisa McLeod said that buyers were there at 6:30 am for the 7 a.m. to noon event benefiting the library.
Members of the Friends spent two hours each Saturday morning from late April to June 26th receiving donations and preparing for the sale at the old rock house on FM156. Their sweat-equity was rewarded with a successful sale.
A total of 280 paperbacks, 283 hardbacks, and 163 children’s thin books, along with 80 VHS tapes, 33 DVDs, book bags, specialty coffee-table books, baked goods, miscellaneous items, and outright donations grossed the group $899.75 for the library.
"Haslet Public Library would not be the amazing success story that it is today without the Friends of the Haslet Library. The library itself was started through the persistent efforts of the Friends," said Head Librarian Susan Morong in a written statement... . The Friends members are driven by their passion for the library and for their community. I am so grateful that the library has the support of this tireless group of volunteers."
