Westlake Building Delay Reflects on Leadership
Editor:
A growing number of Westlake residents are questioning the truthfulness and wisdom of town leaders when they tell us they have a “plan” for financing and building the proposed school arts and sciences building they insist on calling a “civic center.”
In a December 2007 magazine article, Westlake mayor Scott Bradley was asked to list the town’s top priorities for 2008. He stated, “By the end of 2008, we would like to have completed construction of the Arts and Sciences Center….” It was the first of seven items he listed.
But before this magazine had even been distributed, the town of Westlake has already announced that it was pushing the completion date of the arts and sciences building back from January 2009 until at least August 2009. What does it say about the town’s leadership when the failure to achieve this stated priority for 2008 is announced before the year even has even started? “These are concrete objectives,” the mayor went on to say in this same article, “and success or failure can be measured by looking at this list at the end of the year.”
In my opinion, we’re lucky that the current town leadership’s failure is so evident well before the May elections.
