Letter to the editor

Editor:

The Taxpayer Watch Committee recently sent a memo to Trophy Club residents regarding possible ways for the town to lower the tax on the citizens. In this case it is a study to determine if the MUDs should be part of the town operation and NOT stand alone entities. Let me tell you why I think this is a good idea.

I have friends that serve on the MUDs and a study of this sort would be no reflection on the members of the MUDs. It is just to determine if the time has come for Trophy Club to operate as other towns in the area operate, such as Keller and Southlake, which are successful in their own right.

First of all, government should act as responsibly as any business, which means the government should operate efficiently and competitively. In business you constantly look for ways to eliminate costs, duplication, and unneeded departments. We should expect no less of our elected and appointed officials. In the final analysis, all we ask is that it cost no more per capita to provide the same service to the residents of Trophy Club as it does to any of the surrounding towns.

At the very least when we have completed the study, we will have a benchmark that will allow the citizens to see if we are getting what we are paying for.
