The Trophy Club Fire Station, which houses the full-time fire and EMS personnel, needs to be replaced. And, it can be done without increased fire taxes for MUD 1 residents. The MUD No. 1 proposed $2 million bond package on the May 10 election will fund 50 percent of the cost of a new facility, with the balance funded by MUD No. 2 and future public improvement district, PID, residents.
The current structure was built in the mid ’80s as a basic garage for equipment only, as the fire staff was all volunteer at that time. In 1993, the fire/EMS staff became full-time, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Local volunteers crafted the present, minimal sleeping quarters, kitchen and other living areas. The male and female staff share shower facilities. The living quarters are also used as a storage area. The administrative space is minimal at best, and the overall structure is in need of repairs and expansion.
TCFD’s current full-time staff of four people on duty, continuously provides first quality fire protection and emergency medical services to all of us. Additionally, this full-time department benefits residents by helping to hold down the cost of homeowner’s insurance in our town.
If you haven’t visited the fire station recently, stop by and see firsthand why Trophy Club needs an updated fire station and vote FOR the Fire Station Bond package in the upcoming May 10 election.
