Defining Her Goals

Northwest Golf Standout Aims for Championship, School Record

Contributing Writer

Northwest golfer Julia DaneshFar was right on the cusp of a state appearance in last spring’s regional meet, but fell just short in a playoff.

DaneshFar said her objective for the coming season is two-fold; to earn a trip to the state competition and break the only NHS record she has not yet attained.

"For the summer, I really want to be more consistent," DaneshFar said. "I shoot really well one day, and then the next day in the tournament, I’ll shoot a high number. I want to be able to maintain a low tournament score."

DaneshFar said she has not quite had the summer for which she would have hoped, but added that there have been some extenuating circumstances.

"I have been playing a lot of tournaments this summer," DaneshFar said jokingly. "My dad is like a slave driver ... to be honest, a couple of my tournaments have been disappointing. I am in the middle of getting new clubs, so I am trying to get adjusted to them, so it has been kind of a struggle."

DaneshFar said she was satisfied with her effort at the Fort Worth City Championship, in which she finished in second place.

Reflecting on the fall and spring seasons last school year, the Northwest senior said she felt they went well.

"I was pretty satisfied," DaneshFar said. "You can always look back and say, 'I wish I would have done better, or I wish I would have played better here,’ but it turned out really well.

"I got to regionals, and I got into a playoff to go to state, and the girl that beat me, beat me with a birdie, so I am really glad I didn’t lose to a par."

DaneshFar said that overall, she thinks her team’s chances are pretty good this school year.

"We lost some good seniors from last year’s team, but I really feel that we have a good shot," DaneshFar said. "We just have to practice hard and work for it."

DaneshFar said her scoring averaged dropped by about two points between the fall and spring of last school year, and said she does still have one school record she would like to break.

"I really want to get my scoring average lower," DaneshFar said. "We have a record at the school that I have not yet broken for the two-day total, which is a 150. It is the one record that I haven’t broken, so I really want to break that."

DaneshFar said she is undecided about where she wants to attend college at this point.
